NJIT weathers strong 2nd half from UMass-Lowell to win 75-74
LOWELL, Mass. -- Damon Lynn poured in 21 points and Rob Ukawuba sank the game-winning free throw as NJIT eked out a 75-74 win over UMass-Lowell Saturday.
Lynn knocked down four 3-pointers (out of 14 attempts) and becomes NJIT's second-leading scorer. Ukawuba and Tim Coleman each scored 15 for the Highlanders (5-4), Coleman adding 11 rebounds for his 12th career double-double, tying a program record in D-I.
With the game tied in the final 30 seconds, Lynn missed a 3-pointer, Ukawuba grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He made one of two shots with 20 seconds left for the winning point. The River Hawks (2-7) couldn't get a final shot to fall.
Matt Harris led UMass-Lowell with 17 points, Ryan Jones added 16 and Jahad Thomas 14. The River Hawks made just five field goals in the first half (trailing 35-20) but came on with 62-percent shooting in the final period (19 of 31).
