Morant leads Florida Gulf Coast rout of Florida Tech, 101-49
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Demetris Morant scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Florida Gulf Coast closed out its non-conference schedule with a 101-49 shellacking of Division II Florida Tech Saturday afternoon.
The win is the fourth-straight for the Eagles (11-5), who open Atlantic Sun Conference play with three straight road games, at Stetson, Kennesaw State and Lipscomb before returning home January 19 to face USC Upstate.
Morant averaged a double-double over his last six games, was 9 of 11 from the field and cleaned four of his nine rebounds off the offensive glass. Christian Carlyle was near-perfect off the bench, hitting 7 of 9 from the field, drilling his lone 3-point attempt and converting both free throws.
Marc-Eddy Norelia, the Eagles' leading returning scorer and rebounder, practiced but did not play for the fifth straight game.
Sam Daniel scored 20 of the of the Panthers' 49 points.
