Swoope leads Elon over Concordia-St. Paul 84-62
MILWAUKEE -- Dainan Swoope scored 25 points, nailing 6 of 11 from behind the 3-point arc, and handed out six assists to propel Elon to an 84-62 win over Division II member Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday.
Dmitri Thompson added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Phoenix (3-2), while Brian Dawkins scored 14 and Steven Santa Ana 10 to go with six rebounds. Swoope, who finished one point shy of his career high, also snared five rebounds.
The Golden Bears led 4-3 before Elon took over, putting together a 32-13 run over the next 11-plus minutes. The Phoenix enjoyed a 50-33 lead at the half and never let Concordia-St. Paul get closer than 13 points after the break.
The Golden Bears defeated host Milwaukee 69-55 in the round-robin Black and Gold Shootout on Friday.
Avan Ward scored 20 with seven rebounds for Concordia-St. Paul, while Bryndan Matthews chipped in with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ward, Matthews and fellow guard Ahmad Newsome accounted for 23 of the Golden Bears' 32 rebounds.
Elon grabbed seven more rebounds than the Golden Bears and turned the ball over just seven times, while forcing 13.
