Hofstra Pride @ Elon Phoenix
Hofstra cranks up defense in 67-48 win over Elon
ELON, N.C. -- — Eli Pemberton tossed in 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting, Justin Wright-Foreman scored 21 and Hofstra turned in its best defensive performance of the season in a 67-48 victory over Elon on Thursday night.
Rokas Gustys snagged 20 rebounds for the Pride (15-10, 8-5 Colonial Athletic Association), giving him 43 in two games against Elon this season. Hofstra held the Phoenix (14-12, 6-7) to 36 percent shooting from the floor and 21 percent from 3-point range. The 48 points was a season low for Elon and the fewest allowed this season — by 11 points — for the Pride.
The game was close in the first half, with Elon taking a 28-24 lead into intermission after Steven Santa Ana's layup with four seconds left. Tyler Seibring's 3-pointer to open the second half stretched the Phoenix lead to 31-24, but Wright-Foreman scored nine straight points for Hofstra to even the score at 33. Seibring answered with a layup, but Pemberton scored four in a 10-0 run capped by Stafford Truehart's dunk and the Pride led 43-35 with 12 ½ minutes remaining. A 13-0 run a few minutes later sealed the win.
Seibring paced the Phoenix with 16 points and eight rebounds.
