Winchester provides OT spark as Wright St tops Oakland 86-81
ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Loudon Love and Grant Benzinger posted double-doubles and Everett Winchester scored seven of his eight points in overtime to spark Wright State to an 86-81 victory over Oakland on Sunday afternoon.
Love totaled 25 points and 17 rebounds and Benzinger added 14 points and 10 boards for the Raiders (12-5, 4-0 Horizon League). Mark Hughes chipped in with 19 points, five assists and five steals.
Wright State led 40-32 at halftime, but Kendrick Nunn led a second-half charge for the Golden Grizzlies (9-8, 1-3), scoring 21 of his 32 points after intermission. Oakland caught up with the Tigers by the midway point of the second half and led 71-68 on two free throws by Jalen Hayes with 16 seconds left in regulation. But Cole Gentry buried a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.
Hughes opened the extra period with a 3-point play, but Nunn's 3 knotted the score. Winchester's 3-point play gave the Raiders the lead before Nunn hit from long range to knot the score at 77. Hughes hit 1 of 2 free throws to put Wright State up 78-77, Winchester added two free throws and a layup to push the advantage 82-78 and the Raiders held on for the win.
