Making a list is fun. Critiquing that list is even better. This year's edition of the Baseball Tonight 100 has been rolling out and given the diverse knowledge background of the panel, disagreements are inevitable. But as a list-making obsessive, I'm one voter who likes to publicly disagree with results. Let's get down to the players that I feel are the most glaring omissions.
CF Kevin Kiermaier, Tampa Bay Rays: Andrelton Simmons correctly made the top 100 with room to spare. So what about the Simmons of center field? Kiermaier hit .263/.305/.423 for a 105 OPS+ for Tampa Bay, and that by itself is already the offensive line of an above-average center fielder. Even if you throw out his 117 OPS+ from his first season, 2015's line was solid for a center fielder. Now, add in the best statistical defensive season in MLB history in 2015, which is hardly a small aside. ZiPS actually knocks off half of his +41 defensive runs in its 2016 projection and still has Kiermaier finishing with a 4.2 WAR, projected to be 30th in baseball. Maybe you're not a big believer in WAR, but WAR isn't so inaccurate that Kiermaier could "truly" be more than 70 spots lower.
