DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies have placed reliever Rafael Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list with what the team called vertigo symptoms.
Colorado recalled right-hander David Hale from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Betancourt's spot on the roster. He will start Monday night against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Betancourt said he has been dealing with a sinus infection for the past few weeks and hasn't been able to shake it. He struggled in his previous two outings, surrendering seven runs in 1 2/3 innings.
The right-hander approached manager Walt Weiss over the weekend and told him that he needed a break to get healthy.
Betancourt said there is nothing wrong with his arm. The 40-year-old had Tommy John surgery in September 2013 and spent the next season getting back up to speed in the minor leagues.
