Switch-hitting catcher Dioner Navarro has agreed to a one-year free-agent contract with the Chicago White Sox, pending a physical, sources confirmed to ESPN on Thursday.
Navarro, who will be 32 when the 2016 season begins, is a 12-year major league veteran. He was the Toronto Blue Jays' every-day catcher as recently as 2014, when he batted .274 with 12 home runs and 69 RBIs. Navarro, however, lost his full-time job to Russell Martin this past season in Toronto, playing in 54 games.
In a little over a week, the White Sox have overhauled their catching situation. On Nov. 25, the club announced it had agreed on a one-year, $2.5 million deal with free-agent catcher Alex Avila.
On Wednesday, the White Sox announced they had elected to not tender a contract to their own arbitration-eligible catcher, Tyler Flowers. In three years as the White Sox's primary catcher after the departure of A.J. Pierzynski, Flowers never delivered more than a .396 slugging percentage and never hit more than 15 home runs.
The left-handed hitting Avila said earlier this week that he is under the impression that he is returning to more of a full-time role with the White Sox.
Fox Sports earlier confirmed the agreement.
