A No. 1 welterweight contender bout between Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown will headline a UFC on Fox event on July 26 in San Jose.
UFC president Dana White tweeted the bout on Tuesday. The event will take place at the SAP Center.
Lawler (23-10) is less than three days removed from a third-round TKO over Jake Ellenberger at UFC 173 in Las Vegas. The 32-year-old narrowly lost a unanimous decision to Johny Hendricks for the 170-pound title in March.
Fighting out of American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla., Lawler is 4-1 in the UFC welterweight division since 2013, with finishes over Ellenberger and Josh Koscheck.
Brown (19-11) will ride a seven-fight win streak into the summer bout. The Xenia, Ohio native is coming off a TKO win over Erick Silva earlier this month. Brown has finished six fights in his current streak.
"There's nothing better than the two meanest, nastiest, in-their-prime welterweights in the division squaring off in the main event on Fox to see who fights for the UFC welterweight title next," White told ESPN.com via text message.
The winner will next face Hendricks (16-2), who is currently recovering from a bicep injury but is expected back this fall.
ESPN.com ranks Lawler and Brown the Nos. 2 and 6 welterweights in the world, respectively.
