Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis has been forced out of a scheduled fight against Myles Jury on July 25 due to an elbow injury.
Pettis' manager, Mike Roberts, confirmed the injury to ESPN.com on Thursday. Pettis is tentatively scheduled to undergo surgery on the injured elbow on Tuesday. A timetable for his recovery is currently unknown.
UFC officials announced on Fox Sports that Edson Barboza (15-3) has agreed to replace Pettis (18-3) on the card, which takes place at United Center in Chicago.
Pettis, 28, has been plagued with injuries throughout his four-year UFC career. He suffered a broken orbital bone in the first round of a unanimous decision loss to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 185 in March. Prior to that loss, Pettis sat out for more than a year with a knee injury.
Barboza is coming of a unanimous decision loss to Michael Johnson in February. The Brazilian lightweight is 9-3 overall in the UFC. Jury (15-1) suffered his first official professional loss at UFC 182 on Jan. 3.
A bantamweight title fight and rematch between champion TJ Dillashaw and Renan Barao will headline the UFC card.
