Peat's all-around effort powers Suns past Trail Blazers


Koa Peat, the 30th pick in this year's draft, had 17 points, six rebounds and four assists in his debut to help the Phoenix Suns overcome a 16-point deficit and beat the Portland Trail Blazers 81-79 in Las Vegas summer league action Friday.

Javonte Cooke had a team-high 21 points, hitting 5 of 8 from 3-point range, and Khaman Maluach finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns.

DJ Steward finished with 21 points and eight rebounds for the Trail Blazers. Yang Hansen chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds, and Frankie Fidler scored 13.

Portland controlled the first half, building its largest lead of 16 points and taking a 38-24 advantage into halftime.

Phoenix scored 31 points in the third quarter to cut the deficit to one entering the final frame. With the Suns leading 80-79, Portland's Chris Youngblood fouled Darius Brown II with 8.5 seconds remaining. Brown made one of two free throws to push the lead to two. Steward's potential tying shot at the buzzer was off the mark, sealing the comeback victory for Phoenix.
