A technical foul called on Pelicans center DeMarcus Cousins during a loss Wednesday in Miami has been rescinded by the NBA, according to league sources.
The technical would have marked Cousins' 19th of the season, putting him one away from an automatic one-game suspension. He was called for a technical after pushing the arms of Heat center Willie Reed away from his body with 3:32 to play in the first quarter.
Cousins, 26, told reporters after the game that he expected the call to be reversed upon review, citing a halftime conversation he had with referee Tony Brothers.
''He plans on rescinding it,'' Cousins said, according to NOLA.com. ''I'm pretty sure it's going to happen. I don't really know what I did wrong and we agreed on that.''
Cousins' 18 technical fouls lead the NBA this season and are tied for the most in a single season in the past decade, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
Under NBA rules, a player is suspended for one game without pay after receiving 16 technical fouls in one season. They face the same penalty for every second technical foul thereafter.
In 10 games since being traded to the Pelicans during the All-Star break, he is averaging 20.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
