Former NBA head coaches Al Attles and Hubie Brown were awarded the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award before the start of the Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday.
Named in honor of the Hall of Famer, the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually by the National Basketball Coaches Association to recognize and honor coaches who have made a special contribution to the sport throughout their NBA careers.
Rick Carlisle, head coach of the Dallas Mavericks and president of the National Basketball Coaches Association, presented the award.
Attles, 80, coached the Golden State Warriors from 1969-70 until 1982-83 and guided the team to the NBA championship in 1974-75 with a four-game sweep of the Washington Bullets. He still works for the Warriors in an ambassador role.
Brown, 83, who currently broadcasts NBA games for ESPN/ABC, was an NBA head coach for 13 seasons, with the Hawks, Knicks and Grizzlies.
Before that he coached the Kentucky Colonels for two seasons in the American Basketball Association, leading the team to the ABA title in 1974-75 when it beat the Pacers in five games.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr offered his congratulations to the pair at the end of his pregame news conference just prior to his return to the sidelines for Game 2.
Al's been a big presence for us the last couple years," said Kerr. "Players enjoy his presence; he's a big part of our organization.
"Hubie has been a friend for a long time. One of the great broadcasters as you guys know. Love listening to Hubie still going strong."
