CLEVELAND -- Dwyane Wade will sit out Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Hawks because of soreness in his left knee, Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said before tipoff.
"He's been experiencing a little soreness the last couple, few games and today, going through shootaround, just had some soreness and they did some tests on him and the best thing for him is just to sit out for tonight," Lue said.
Wade, who turns 36 next month, is averaging 11.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists this season playing primarily as the Cavs' backup point guard and leader of the bench unit. He ranks ninth among all NBA reserves in scoring average.
Wade missed one other game this year, the fifth game of the season, with a left knee contusion.
Lue said he would look to LeBron James to play point guard with the second unit in Wade's absence.
The Cavs will welcome Kevin Love (left hip) and Tristan Thompson (left calf) back to the lineup against Atlanta. Love missed the Cavs' 105-98 win over Philadelphia on Saturday. Thompson has missed the Cavs' past 19 games. Lue said Thompson would be on a minute restriction, but he would not specify what that range would be.
