The Miami Heat announced Monday that they will retire Chris Bosh's No. 1 jersey during a halftime ceremony on March 26 when they play the Orlando Magic.
"I am proud that Chris will have his No. 1 jersey retired and be honored inside the AmericanAirlines Arena with this recognition for the greatness as a player on the court and his tremendous contributions to the Miami community off the court," Heat president Pat Riley said in a statement. "His name and jersey will hang forever and always."
Bosh, 34, hasn't played since the 2015-16 season after his career was halted because of blood clot issues.
He has played in 13 NBA seasons, with seven coming in Toronto before he moved to Miami. He was part of the Heat's championship teams in 2012 and 2013. In 2012, he recovered from an abdominal strain midway through the playoffs to score 19 points off the bench and help the Heat win Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals. During the 2013 Finals, he got a crucial offensive rebound to set up Ray Allen for one of the biggest shots in Finals history, and Bosh clinched a game by blocking a shot at the buzzer.
Bosh is an 11-time All-Star and won a gold medal as part of the 2008 Olympic team in Beijing. He averaged 19.2 points and 8.5 rebounds for his career.
His jersey will be the fourth retired by the Heat. Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway and Shaquille O'Neal are the other Heat players that have received the honor.
