The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded Josh Green and cash to the Utah Jazz for Cody Williams and John Konchar, the teams announced Saturday.
The Timberwolves are expected to keep Williams, the No. 10 pick in 2024, and waive-and-stretch Konchar, sources told ESPN. Saturday is the final day to waive a player and stretch out his guaranteed salary over multiple seasons.
Minnesota can now sign a 15th player and will have more apron flexibility during the season by waiving and stretching Konchar's salary for $2.05 million across three straight years.
In order to sign newly acquired forward Jonathan Kuminga using the taxpayer midlevel exception, the Timberwolves discussed multiple trade scenarios for Green. They found a home for him on a Jazz team that wanted an additional 3-and-D wing.
Moving Green's $14.7 million deal gives Minnesota the salary space to complete signing Kuminga to a two-year, $12.4 million contract.
