DeGrom burst onto the scene with a seven-inning gem in a loss to the crosstown Yankees, then proceeded to quiet the bats of everyone else he faced, fanning 144 hitters in 140⅓ innings and posting a 2.69 ERA en route to becoming the Mets' first NL rookie of the year since Doc Gooden in 1984.
