News: 1 day agoShough completed 35 of 56 passes for 410 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions in Sunday's 31-30 overtime loss to the Lions. He added eight yards on four carries and fumbled twice, losing one of them.
Spin: The second-year quarterback struggled in the first half and the Saints were facing a 21-0 deficit early in the third quarter, but Shough turned it on down the stretch as he set new career highs in attempts, completions, passing yards and passing TDs. Coach Kellen Moore gave Shough a chance to win the game in OT rather than tying it with an extra point, but rookie WR Bryce Lance couldn't bring in his throw to the back corner of the end zone for a two-point conversion. Shough will look to reduce his mistakes in Week 2 on the road against the Ravens.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: One of the surprise second-half breakout players of 2025, Shough scored 17-plus fantasy points in seven of his nine full games, including six straight to end the season. The 2025 second-round pick was a solid producer with his arm (250.1 passing yards per game) and his legs (19.3 rushing yards per game and three TDs). Shough didn't show a high ceiling (he never reached 22 fantasy points in a game), though that can be traced to a shaky supporting cast. That's an area that should be better in 2026 with Travis Etienne Jr. and No. 8 overall pick Jordyn Tyson (once healthy) joining the team. He's still unproven, but Shough enters Year 2 (same as coach Kellen Moore) as an intriguing fantasy breakout candidate. He's worth a look in the later rounds.
