News: 6 days agoWeegar said Wednesday that he has high expectations for himself and the Mammoth during the 2026-27 campaign.
Spin: The Mammoth acquired Weegar from the Flames during the 2025-26 season. He seems hopeful going into his first full year in Utah. Across 79 regular-season appearances between the two teams last year, he generated four goals, 24 assists, 175 blocked shots, 167 hits and 88 PIM. His 28-point performance was his worst since he recorded 18 points over 45 regular-season appearances with the Panthers during the 2019-20 campaign, but he'll attempt to bounce back this year.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Weegar had been one of the more underrated fantasy defenders in the league in recent years, but that all went out the window last season. Splitting time between Calgary and Utah, Weegar managed just four goals and 28 points in 79 games, in addition to posting a horrific minus-33 rating. The plus/minus rating will rectify itself now that he's on a better Mammoth team and Weegar is always good for upwards of 350-400 hits/blocked shots, so he has value in leagues which value such numbers, but with Mikhail Sergachev locked in as the quarterback of Utah's No. 1 power-play unit, there's no real reason to think Weegar's scoring numbers will rebound much at age 32.
