Canada held off Brazil to claim a second-straight bronze medal in women's soccer with a 2-1 win on Friday.
Deanne Rose and Christine Sinclair gave Canada a commanding lead before Beatriz started a comeback that came up short for Brazil, which were denied a medal despite playing in front of a large home crowd in Sao Paulo.
Canada star Sinclair showed that Canada would not be overwhelmed by the occasion when she struck the crossbar with a free kick in the 10th minute.
But it was the 17-year-old Rose who opened the scoring in the 25th minute, tapping home from Ashley Lawrence's cross after a long run on the counter-attack.
Canada added to its lead seven minutes after halftime when Rose found Sinclair in the box for a shot that beat Brazil keeper Barbara.
Brazil did not give up and came close to getting a goal back three minutes later when Rafaella headed inches wide following a corner.
Canada's players quickly regained their footing, however, and had two chances to add a third goal -- first when Rose hit the post with a shot on the break, and then when Barbara got a fingertip to stop Lawrence's shot across goal.
Brazil finally ended their goal drought in the 79th minute when Erika flicked on a headed pass that fell to Beatriz, who swiveled on the ball and fired home.
But Canada held off a furious late rally to frustrate the hosts and repeat its feat in London from four years ago.
