Former Fulham and West Brom midfielder Zoltan Gera headed Hungary to a 1-0 victory over Finland in the European Qualifying Group F match on Friday night.The match looked to be heading to a draw until the 35-year-old scored the goal which claimed Hungary's second win of the group stages in the 84th minute.Finland suffered their first defeat in the group to Romania in their last match and Hungary made sure they suffered back-to-back defeats while earning themselves their second successive win following a 1-0 victory over the Faroe Islands a month ago.The result put Hungary third in the group behind leaders Romania, who leapfrogged Northern Ireland to go top after a 2-0 win.Finland, who were without suspended midfielder Alexander Ring, were forced to defend in the early stages of the game when Balazs Dzsudzsak sent a shot wide from close range and Adam Szalai forced the first save from goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.Hradecky then denied Gera in the 25th minute before Teemu Pukki was caught offside then put a header and shot wide for Finland.Finland defender Jere Uronen went the closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half when his shot from the right of the penalty area hit the post in the 43rd minute.After the break, Gera went close again with a strike from the middle of the box which Hradecky parried to safety.Hradecky claimed a header by Gera in the 70th minute before Joona Toivio flashed a 30-yard strike over the bar and Roman Eremenko saw his 20-yard effort saved by Hungary keeper Gabor Kiraly.However, it wad Gera who found the net seven minutes from time when he headed in Gergo Lovrencsics' cross from the left from close range.Finland were unable to create any more chances in the closing minutes as Hungary claimed a slender win.ends
