Newport v Bury
Shakers remain in promotion hunt
Bury turned up the heat on their promotion rivals with a 2-0 triumph over Newport at Rodney Parade.Ryan Lowe's first-half header and Daniel Nardiello's late strike keeps Bury four-points off third-placed Wycombe with a game-in-hand, while for the hosts the defeat meant the Exiles slip out of the play-off places. The visitors opened the scoring in the 21st minute. Daniel Mayor caught County napping with a quickly taken corner to Chris Hussey, who saw his fizzing left-footed shot flicked past goalkeeper Joe Day by Lowe.Striker Aaron O'Connor set out to keep his side in the promotion race when he battled into the Shakers' 18-yard-box, but his half-volley flew wide.Adam El-Abd almost threw his side's advantage away after Miles Storey battled down the left-flank to deliver a low cross. The defender then stabbed the ball onto his own post before it trickled out for a corner.Bury had to wait until the 88th minute to wrap up the three-points when Nardiello was given the freedom of the box to slot through Day's legs.
