Marc Janko struck a hat trick as Sydney FC ran out 5-4 winners against Brisbane Roar to climb up to second in the A-League.

It was Brisbane who took an early lead, with Henrique opening the scoring inside five minutes, before Matthew Jurman netted an equaliser just two minutes later.

Janko then scored the first of his three goals from the penalty spot to edge Sydney in front, adding two more -- including another spot kick -- in the second half.

With the home side looking like strolling to victory, Brisbane struck twice in the final 10 minutes through Andrija Kaludjerovic and Steven Lustica to pile on the pressure.

Sydney failed to panic, however, as Alex Brosque reasserted their two-goal lead in the 89th minute, with Dimitri Petratos's effort a minute later ultimately proving only to be a consolation.

The victory leaves Graham Arnold's side behind only Wellington Phoenix in the table, with just one point now separating the two clubs.
