Kylian Mbappé injury headlines Zinedine Zidane's first France victory
Zinedine Zidane's first game at the helm of France resulted in a 1-0 victory over Türkiye as Kylian Mbappé supplied the only goal of the Nations League fixture before promptly being replaced due to injury.
Mbappé struck early in the second half but appeared to suffer an injury in the process and was soon replaced. His side saw the game out safely, with Türkiye goalkeeper Ugurcan Çakir sent off late on.
France were slightly rattled after just four minutes when Baris Yilmaz forced a save from Mike Maignan, though the effort was foiled and ultimately proved to be offside.
Mbappé had France's first real attempt in the 17th minute, collecting the ball from Michael Olise before launching a right-footed shot at goal that landed wide of the mark.
Following a spell of Turkish pressure there were penalty shouts after half an hour as Yilmaz hit the ground following a collision with Maxence Lacroix in the French box, but the referee dismissed appeals and play continued.
France dominated possession in the following minutes of the half, with a shift in the positioning of Ousmane Dembélé and Mbappé resulting in an almost instantaneous pay-off as Rayan Cherki picked up a loose ball only to be thwarted in the last moments by an interception from Merih Demiral.
Though under incessant pressure, Türkiye were able to cling on until the halftime whistle as Olise's goal-bound effort was palmed away by Cakir before Adrien Rabiot's subsequent attempt sailed over the bar.
When resuming play there was a moment of promise for Türkiye as Arda Güler won a dangerous free-kick after a clash with Cherki, but the resulting chance was not converted as the ball made contact with Lacroix's head and swung just wide of the target.
Türkiye threatened again just minutes later, and were left to rue squandering a glut of chances when Mbappé came to the fore in the 54th minute to give his side the advantage.
Found by Olise, Mbappé took aim at the inside of the near post to claim his 67th international goal and leave Türkiye lagging behind.
While celebrating the 27-year-old looked to be suffering from an injury of some sort, and play was paused whilst he received treatment away from the pitch.
He did return but still appeared to be struggling, resulting in a substitution as Désiré Doué came on to take his place.
Doue pounced within minutes with a shot that was heading towards the right-hand corner before Cakir intervened, after which Türkiye began to apply plenty of pressure in the hunt for an equaliser.
It did not appear, however, and instead Türkiye were weakened by the dismissal of Cakir due to a handball out of his area with Altay Bayindir sent on to deputise for the remaining goalless minutes.
