Chennaiyin FC moved into a tie for second place in the Indian Super League standings with a 1-0 defeat of FC Pune City in the teams' regular season finale on Saturday.
Jeje Lalpekhula scored the winner to pull Chennaiyin even with FC Goa, though the latter have a game in hand.
Jeje's goal came in the 64th minute after his initial effort from just outside the box was blocked by a defender. His second shot, however, found the bottom left corner of Steve Simonsen's net to seal the points for the playoff-bound visitors.
Chennaiyin must now wait for the result of the match between Delhi Dynamos and FC Goa to discover their postseason opponent.
