Harry Kane has not been included in England's squad to face Japan on Tuesday evening, following a "minor issue in training."
Kane, who only joined the squad at the weekend after being rested for the first half of the international camp, will play no part in the friendly at Wembley.
An England statement said: "Harry Kane is rested tonight as a precaution having picked up a minor issue in training, but remains with the squad receiving further assessment."
The Bayern Munich striker has been in spectacular form for his club this season, scoring 48 goals in 40 games and would have been hoping to add to his tally of 78 international goals.
Marc Guéhi will stand in as captain -- becoming the 129th player to wear the England armband.
"Jordan Henderson returned to Brentford ahead of this evening's fixture," England said, meaning he becomes the ninth player to leave the squad to return to their club, with Arsenal trio Noni Madueke, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice heading back to north London at the weekend.
Kane's absence gives an unexpected opportunity for Phil Foden to strengthen his chances of making the summer tournament as he started in a false nine position.
