Scotland endured a nightmare evening in Miami as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brazil which leaves their World Cup hopes hanging by a thread.
Steve Clarke's men came into the match hoping to qualify for the World Cup knockout stages for the first time but it could scarcely have got off to a worse start when VinÃcius Júnior capitalised on an awful error from Scott McKenna to put Brazil a goal up after seven minutes.
VinÃcius netted again before half time and Matheus Cunha put the game well and truly to bed.
The anthems to get the match under way were rousing from both teams, but from a Scotland perspective, the epic rendition of Flower of Scotland was as good as it got for them.
McKenna took far too long on the ball and Bournemouth winger Rayan, the first Brazilian teenager to start for his country at the World Cup since 1970, capitalised on his dawdling.
He blocked the attempted pass and it fell into the path of VinÃcius, who calmly stepped past Angus Gunn and tapped home.
VinÃcius had the ball in the back of the net but it was adjudged to have been a foul on Jack Hendry, a bit reprieve for Scotland.
But not for long, as the Real Madrid star headed home from point blank range from a Bruno Guimarães cross to give Brazil their two-goal cushion.
Matheus Cunha then made it 3-0 midway through the second half and Scotland were lucky not to concede a fourth goal at various different points in the match.
Brazil topped the group and will likely play Japan in the round of 32, while Scotland face a nervy wait to see if three points and -3 goal difference will be enough to secure a third place qualification spot.
