Argentina beat Jordan 3-1 in their last group stage match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to maintain their perfect 100% win record this tournament.
In the simultaneous kickoff in Group J, Austria and Algeria played out a thrilling 3-3 draw, a result which sent both of them into the next round, and Iran out of the World Cup.
Argentina dominated the game early and Giovani Lo Celso swept home a lovely freekick from the edge of the box to put Argentina 1-0 up early, before Lautaro Martínez converted a penalty won under chaotic circumstances (Julián Álvarez hit the crossbar, Marcos Senesi forced a save while being kicked in the face, winning the penalty) and it was all quite one way traffic in the first half.
Jordan made it interesting with Mousa Al Tamari sweeping in a sensational Ehsan Haddad cross after a lovely Jordan move that carried them from the back to the right touchline from where Haddad swung his cross in.
Lionel Messi came on right after that, and soon made it three for Argentina after converting a freekick that he himself had won at the edge of the box. He is now the first man to score in seven straight World Cup games.
