Manchester City got their 2026-27 Champions League campaign off to the perfect start as two goals from Erling Haaland helped the visitors to a 2-0 win over Porto.
Tuesday's match at the Estádio do Dragão was the first Champions League match in which Pep Guardiola has not been in charge of City since 2015 as Enzo Maresca made his bow in the competition with his new side.
Both Porto and City have made perfect starts to their domestic campaigns and top their respective leagues.
City may now be without Guardiola, but in Maresca they have a man who knows how to mastermind a successful European title tilt. He guided Chelsea to the Conference League in 2025 and had an impressive record with the Blues in the Champions League, famously masterminding a 3-0 win over Barcelona the following season.
Star man Erling Haaaland is working his way up to full match sharpness but still managed to score his 300th career goal during City's win over Coventry on Saturday and added to his Champions League haul against Porto.
The Portuguese side have returned to the Champions League after a two-year absence. They were knocked out on penalties by Arsenal during their last appearance in Europe's premier club competition.
Francesco Farioli's team have conceded just once in their five-game winning streak in the Primeira Liga, scoring 11.
However, Porto have still never beaten City in a competitive match with their best result being a 0-0 draw on home soil in December 2020.
