Sebastien Pocognoli admitted Scotland got what they deserved after they ended their first camp under his charge with a dismal 2-1 Nations League defeat at home to Slovenia.
The Scots led at half-time through Ryan Christie's close-range opener but Slovenia -- the better team for most of the evening -- fought back in the second half to claim a first win in seven meetings with Scotland after goals from Aljosa Matko and Danijel Sturm.
On the night when Napoli midfielder Billy Gilmour won his 50th cap, Hull forward Oli McBurnie notched his 20th and Hearts winger Josh McPake came off the bench for his debut, the defeat left the Scots languishing third in the four-team Group B1 with just four points from their four matches so far.
"I don't think we deserved to get more than what we get," Pocognoli said.
"We played not a game that we wanted to deliver. We were not at the level we expect to be on the ball or off the ball. So, yes, a disappointing feeling, 100 per cent."
Pocognoli has now lost both of his Hampden matches so far, and an exasperated Tartan Army booed after their latest setback.
The 39-year-old admitted there is much to analyse and improve upon for the November double-header against North Macedonia and Switzerland.
While expressing disappointment that his team failed to ignite in his first two home fixtures, Pocognoli was intent on taking a measured view of the overall picture at the end of his first camp since succeeding Steve Clarke, who was in attendance to present captain Andy Robertson with a jersey marking his 100 appearances for the national team.
"I learned a lot," the head coach said. "Not only on the pitch but outside the pitch.
"I think they are on track. I think the players delivered a great camp. We are disappointed with the ranking aspect, especially with today's game, but the job that we delivered with the staff, with the players, and some moments during the four games was positive.
"We have enough quality. But maybe we will need to adjust one or two things. We used this camp to experiment things. We will analyse what we need to analyse.
"We have a lot of new players, young players. It's part of the process to also see things that do not work.

"But there were also a lot of positive aspects during the four games. I'm always stable about winning a game or losing a game. I'm not flying when we won in Macedonia.
"I will not be too negative about the last game. I try to be stable and to build on the good things and to improve the things that we need to improve.
"Supporters had two games at home that probably were a feeling of disappointment. We need to make sure that the next one against Macedonia we propose something better.
"They are passionate, they want to see goals, they want to see chances. They saw that in the two games away from home [in Slovenia and North Macedonia], but we need to deliver this also at home."
