News: 4 days agoThornton (knee) signed a one-year contract with the Valkyries on Monday.

Spin: Thornton underwent knee surgery in July, which ruled her out for the remainder of the season. She was excellent in 22 appearances, posting averages of 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.8 three-pointers on 36.2 percent shooting from the field.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Thornton spent two years with the Liberty and helped the franchise capture the 2024 WNBA title before being selected by the Valkyries during the WNBA Expansion Draft. The move to Golden State paid off for her, as she was thrust into a starting role, and through 20 games, she averaged 14.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.4 steals (all career highs) and 1.4 assists over 29.9 minutes, en route to her first All-Star nod. However, her campaign was cut short due to a knee injury that was severe enough for her to require surgery. It's unclear when she'll be cleared to return to on-court activities, and that will presumably factor into the interest she draws in the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.
