Griner scores 21 points to help Mercury top Sun 99-90
PHOENIX -- Brittney Griner scored a season-high 21 points and the Phoenix Mercury rallied to beat the Connecticut Sun 99-90 on Tuesday night.
Phoenix (2-4, No. 10 in AP's WNBA power poll), which trailed by nine points at the end of the first quarter, scored 16 straight points at the start of the fourth to take control of the game.
Diana Taurasi had 19 points and nine assists, Penny Taylor added 16 points while Candice Dupree and DeWanna Bonner scored 15 apiece for Phoenix.
Connecticut (1-5, No. 12) took a 26-17 lead after the first quarter, fueled by an 8-0 run featuring 3-pointers by Camille Little and Rachel Banham, and the Sun led 46-40 at halftime.
Phoenix used a 7-0 run to close the third quarter -- including Alex Harden's 3-pointer with less than a second left -- to narrow the gap to 73-72.
Little led Connecticut with 16 points and Alex Bentley added 14.
