In 38 seasons at the University of Tennessee, Pat Summitt won 1,098 games, amassing more victories than any other college basketball coach, man or woman.
Summitt was a pioneer -- taking over the Lady Vols when she was barely older than the players and often playing the toughest schedule in the country -- and a legend, winning eight national championships.
On Tuesday, less than five years after revealing she had been diagnosed with early-onset dementia, Alzheimer's type, Summitt died. She was 64.
A look back at some of espnW's and ESPN.com's most noteworthy stories and profiles of the iconic coach.
