Rory McIlroy's transcendent Friday at the Masters made him the odds-on -250 favorite to win his second straight green jacket at Augusta National Golf Club, but a much more pedestrian 1-over round on Saturday sent him back into plus-money territory at +148. That's good enough to still top the odds board, but Cameron Young, who put together a tremendous 7-under third round to tie McIlroy for the lead, is right behind him at +255.
Young was a decently popular pick among public bettors going into the tournament, according to oddsmakers at DraftKings and Caesars; at BetMGM, the 28-year-old has garnered a respectable 5.9% of the handle and is listed as the book's third largest liability. Young opened at 100-1 to win the Masters a year ago and has consistently shortened amid excellent results, including a win at The Players Championship, before entering Augusta at 22-1.
Just after Young is Sam Burns, whose solid 4-under day did enough to keep him in contention and shorten him from 21-1 to +660 from Friday to Saturday. Then there's Scottie Scheffler, who posted a monster 7-under day to get himself back in the picture, which improved him mightily from 62-1 to +880 after he entered the tournament as the +510 favorite. BetMGM has taken a combined 32.5% of the handle on McIlroy and Scheffler, making them the two largest liabilities.
Shane Lowry continued to improve his odds as he climbed up to fourth on the leaderboard, going from 34-1 to +1225. Public darling Justin Rose also kept himself in the running by finishing Saturday tied with Jason Day (+2200) for fifth on the leaderboard, going from +2050 to +1475 since Friday evening.
