STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Miguel Maysonet rushed for 169 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown, and returned the second-half kickoff 75 yards for another score as Stony Brook routed Gardner-Webb 41-10 Saturday in Big South action.
Maysonet surpassed the 4,000-yard mark for his career at Stony Brook (7-1, 3-0).The Seawolves amassed 243 yards rushing to 84 for Gardner-Webb (1-6, 0-2). Last year, the Runnin' Bulldogs lost 76-28 at home to Stony Brook. Those 76 points were single-game records for Stony Brook and the Big South.
This time, Gardner-Webb trailed just 13-3 at halftime before Stony Brook scored four second-half touchdowns.
After Maysonet's kickoff return made it 20-3, it was Kyle Essington's turn. The Seawolves quarterback, who completed 11 of 17 passes for 142 yards, connected twice for touchdowns to Kevin Norrell -- a 30-yarder in the third quarter and a 27-yarder midway through the fourth quarter to end the scoring.
