St Francis (PA) Red Flash @ James Madison Dukes
James Madison survives St. Francis (Pa.) 24-20
HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Dae'Quan Scott ran for 190 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown, his second of the night, as James Madison escaped with a 24-20 victory over St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday night.
James Madison (2-1) turned almost exclusively to its ground attack after two costly first-half interceptions by Michael Birdsong. As Birdsong looked to run more, the offensive line wore down the Red Flash defense to create bigger gains late.
The closely contested game was an uncomfortable scenario for the Dukes after last year's 55-7 blowout over the Red Flash.
St. Francis (0-2) jumped ahead 14-3 in the first half and tied the game at 17 in the fourth quarter. Even after James Madison took the lead, the Red Flash had the ball on the James Madison 36-yard line with 1:04 to go in the game. Ultimately, Capri Thompson failed on four consecutive plays to throw the go-ahead touchdown.
