Dartmouth starts fast, holds off Butler, 30-23
INDIANAPOLIS -- Dartmouth opened its season by scoring on its first three possessions and held off a fourth-quarter rally to earn a 30-23 win at Butler Saturday.
Dominick Pierre ran for a pair of touchdowns after Dalyn Williams opened the game by scoring on a 1-yard run on Dartmouth's first possession as the Big Green took a 21-3 lead early in the second quarter.
Pierre finished with three touchdowns and 93 yards on 23 carries. Williams ran for 119 yards on 18 carries while Big Green amassed 238 yards on the ground.
Matt Lancaster was 42 of 68 and a pair of touchdowns and sparked the fourth-quarter Butler rally with two long drives. Lancaster fired a 15-yard scoring pass to Brandon Collins with 7:36 left in the game, then drove the Bulldogs (2-2) 67 yards in 11 plays and capped the drive by burrowing in from the 1 with 2:11 left.
