Delaware beats James Madison in 29-22 comeback
NEWARK, Del. -- Trent Hurley led Delaware in a 2nd half comeback, throwing for three touchdowns and securing a 29-22 victory against James Madison Saturday night.
After two interceptions and trailing 19-7 at the start of the third, Hurley fired off two touchdown passes and a successful two-point conversion to give Delaware (4-1, 1-0) its first lead in the Colonial Athletic Association opener.
A 28-yard field goal by James Madison's Cameron Starke tied the score at 22-22 four minutes into the fourth.
Hurley and the Fightin' Blue Hens did not relent, driving down the field for 11 plays and 75 yards to score the final touchdown with seven minutes remaining. An interception by Patrick Callaway with 1:58 left to play gave Delaware the final possession. The Fightin' Blue Hens outscored James Madison 22-3 in the second half.
Michael Birdsong had a game-high 292 yards passing and two touchdowns for the Dukes (3-2, 0-1).
