Morehead State beats Pikeville 49-36
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Austin Gahafer threw for five touchdowns and no interceptions Saturday night to help Morehead State beat Pikeville 49-36.
Gahafer finished 30 of 43 for 277 yards, and the Eagles (1-1) avenged last year's 13-10 loss to NAIA Pikeville (1-1). Gahafer's fifth touchdown pass gave Morehead State a 42-10 lead early in the third quarter.
The Bears answered with three straight touchdowns, cutting the deficit to 42-29 on Sani Warren's 24-yard touchdown pass with 4:08 left in the game.
Brandon Bornhauser returned the ensuing onside kickoff 45 yards for a Morehead State touchdown to seal the win.
Cyrus Strahm had eight catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles, and Jake Raymond added six receptions for 66 yards and a score.
Seth Millar led Pikeville with 15 carries for 130 yards and four touchdowns. His fourth scoring run pulled the Bears within 49-36 with 56 seconds to play.
