San Diego beats Div. II Western New Mexico 27-0 in opener
SAN DIEGO -- Jonah Hodges ran for two touchdowns as San Diego beat Division II Western New Mexico 27-0 in a season opener for both teams on Saturday night.
Hodges ran for 106 yards on 16 carries for the Toreros. Anthony Lawrence threw for 211 yards and a touchdown on 17-of-26 passing and Patrick Murray hit a pair of field goals.
In the third quarter, Lawrence threw a 16-yard scoring pass to Ross Dwelley and Murray hit his second field goal of the night for a 20-0 San Diego lead with 2:14 to go in the period.
Hodges 31-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter with 7:35 to play sealed the win.
Matt Hommel threw for 83 yards on 8-of-20 passing for the Mustangs. Tyler Vargas had a 33-yard field goal attempt blocked by San Diego's Jamal Agnew late in the second quarter.
