Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine's status for the Sooners' bowl game is in question after the true freshman left Saturday's 38-35 overtime loss to Oklahoma State with an ankle injury.
"He has a sprained ankle. How severe, I'm not sure. I think he will be OK here soon," Sooners coach Bob Stoops told reporters after the game.
Stoops did not rule out the return of the freshman running back for OU's bowl game.
Perine had 26 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns when he left the game in the third quarter with the ankle injury. He burst onto the national scene on Nov. 22, when he broke the FBS record for single-game rushing yards with a 427-yard performance in the team's 44-7 win over Kansas.
Perine has 1,579 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns this season.
