Georgia Southern on Sunday named veteran Max Johnson as the Eagles' starting quarterback, marking the fourth program where he will be atop the depth chart.
This will be the seventh season of college football for Johnson, 25, who has also been QB1 at LSU, Texas A&M and North Carolina.

He brings a proven track record to coach Clay Helton's team in the Sun Belt Conference, as he has thrown for 6,355 yards and 49 touchdowns since arriving at LSU in 2020. Johnson came back from a devastating broken femur in 2024 while at North Carolina that required five surgeries.
Johnson, who transferred to Texas A&M in 2022 and to UNC in 2024, has made 24 starts and 35 total appearances during his college career.
Georgia Southern will open the season at home against Charleston Southern on Sept. 5 before visiting Clemson on Sept. 12.
