What you need to know for Wednesday
We've got a busy night in the Association with nine games on tap, including four contests where both teams enter with winning records.
We've got a LeBron Bowl tonight in Cleveland, where LeBron James' current Los Angeles Lakers squad take on the Cleveland Cavaliers, which was his longest home in the NBA. The Lakers have won two straight games, but the Cavs are tied for the longest current win-streak in the NBA at four in a row.
In Toronto, the New York Knicks face the Toronto Raptors for the third time this season. The Knicks won their first two matchups by a combined 38 points, but both games were before the Knicks won the NBA Cup then went into a slump. The Knicks have won three straight, but tonight will be a test to see whether they've returned to their level from earlier in the season.
The two Florida franchises meet tonight, with the Miami Heat hosting the Orlando Magic. If the season ended today both teams would be in the play-in, but both are a loss behind the Philadelphia 76ers for sixth place so tonight's game is important for the standings.
The late game tonight is a heavyweight battle in the Texas triangle, with the Houston Rockets hosting the San Antonio Spurs. These are two of the top-four seeds in the Western Conference with superstars all around, making it must-see TV.
Let's dig in and identify some fantasy streamers, betting angles and daily fantasy prospects of interest.
Wednesday's fantasy stream team
Naji Marshall, SF/PF, Dallas Mavericks (rostered in 48.0% of ESPN leagues): Marshall has averaged 22.0 PPG, 6.6 RPG and 5.3 APG in his last seven games. He should be an everyday fantasy starter for as long as he holds his current role for the Mavericks.
Naji Marshall makes a strong move to the rim and gets it to go plus the and-1.
Max Christie, SG, Dallas Mavericks (20.7%): Christie has at least 21 points in four straight games, a span over which he has averaged 23.3 PPG and 5.0 3PG.
Cam Spencer, SG/PG, Memphis Grizzlies (32.3%): Spencer continues to start in place of Ja Morant. Spencer dished out 13 assists on Monday, and has at least 11 assists in his last five consecutive starts.
Jock Landale, C, Memphis Grizzlies (13.9%): Landale missed Monday's game for personal reasons, but is off the injury report for tonight's game. In his last three games, he has averaged 19.3 PPG and 10.0 RPG with double-doubles in two of the three games.
Dre's bets for Wednesday
Jusuf Nurkic over 5.5 assists (-132)
Nurkic is questionable to play tonight after sitting out last night's game. But when he plays, Nurkic has become the centerpiece of the Jazz offense, as they run nearly every possession through him. The result has been an assists explosion for Nurkic, who has 36 assists in his last three games.
Sam Merrill over 2.5 3-pointers (-144)
Merrill is probable to return tonight after a six-game absence. He injured his ankle in his last outing, but in the six games before that he averaged 17.7 PPG and 4.7 3PG with at least three 3-pointers made in all six. Tonight, he faces a Lakers defense that doesn't defend well from 3-point range, ranking in the bottom-half of the league in 3-pointers allowed to both wing positions.
Jaylen Brown over 29.5 points (-124)
Brown scored 20 points on Monday, but in the five games before that he averaged 32.6 PPG. Brown will be facing an Atlanta Hawks defense he hung 41 points on just 11 days ago. On the season, the Hawks allow the third-most points in the NBA to opposing small forwards.
Jaylen Brown with the and-1 bucket
Cam Spencer over 8.5 assists (-115)
When Spencer comes off the bench, he's a 3-point marksman. But when he starts, he is a habitual dime dropper. Spencer has at least 11 assists in each of his past five starts, with an average of 11.8 APG in that span.
