PITTSBURGH -- The St. Louis Cardinals recalled relievers Sam Tuivailala and Nick Greenwood from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday to bolster the bullpen for the final two games before the All-Star break.
Right-hander Mitch Harris was placed on the disabled list and first baseman Xavier Scruggs was sent down to Memphis.
Tuivailala, a right-hander, is back with the Cardinals for the third time this season, and is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in three appearances. Left-hander Greenwood was 7-3 with a 5.42 ERA in Triple-A while working as a starter since mid-May.
Harris, a right-hander, strained his right groin while in the bullpen Friday.
Scruggs was hitting .262 with nine RBIs over 57 at-bats in 26 games for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals began the day with a major league-best 56-31 record, but Pittsburgh (51-35) had cut St. Louis' nine-game lead in half in the NL Central over the previous 1½ weeks.
