KANSAS CITY -- Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias left Thursday's 15-7 loss to the Kansas City Royals with a right middle finger contusion.
Iglesias, 25, went down in pain after getting hit by a pitch while attempting to bunt in the top of the third inning. X-rays came back negative, and he will be re-evaluated Friday.
"It's good news," Iglesias said of the test results after the game. "We just see. Hopefully nothing bad and I can recover."
Nevertheless, Iglesias admitted to being in significant pain.
"It's pretty uncomfortable," Iglesias said. "See how it goes in the next few days."
Iglesias was writhing on the field in distress before Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand came out to assist him. Iglesias eventually left the game and was replaced by Andrew Romine.
"There's nothing much you can do with that ball. It was right at me, and I just try to protect myself and, unfortunately, it found my finger," Iglesias said.
The Tigers optioned right-hander Guido Knudson to Triple-A Toledo and recalled left-hander Jeff Ferrell and infielder Dixon Machado after the game, and he will replace Iglesias.
Manager Brad Ausmus said he expects Iglesias to miss "more than a few days."
