LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers have re-signed pitcher Brandon Beachy, who twice has had Tommy John surgery, to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.
The major league deal will pay Beachy $1.5 million, according to multiple reports.
Beachy, 29, still was recovering from his second Tommy John elbow reconstruction when he signed with the Dodgers last spring. He returned in July after a nearly two-year absence and made two starts, going 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA.
His best years were with in Atlanta, where he went 14-11 with a 3.23 ERA and 1.13 WHIP from 2010 to '13.
The Dodgers have been busy trying to build adequate depth in their rotation after losing Cy Young runner-up Zack Greinke to a division rival, the Diamondbacks. They signed left-hander Scott Kazmir to a three-year, $48 million contract last week, and they expect to finalize an eight-year deal with Japanese right-hander Kenta Maeda later this week.
The Maeda deal has been slowed due to concerns over his right elbow and shoulder, sources told ESPN's Jim Bowden and Jerry Crasnick. A source said the Dodgers know that surgery will be inevitable but that it is a worthy gamble if they can get three to four years of performance out of him.
The Dodgers have scheduled a 4 p.m. ET news conference for Thursday, presumably to announce that the sides have struck a deal.
