Fantasy Football
News: 2 days agoMitchell caught both of his targets for 29 yards in Friday's 17-0 preseason win over the Steelers.
Spin: Geno Smith completed seven passes to six different targets on the game's opening drive, and Mitchell is the only receiver whom Smith connected with twice. They linked up for an eight-yard gain on Smith's first pass and combined for a 21-yard pickup on the very next play. Mitchell and Smith have reportedly developed strong chemistry in training camp, and that was on display during their brief time in the game Friday. The Jets drafted WR Omar Cooper 30th overall, but all signs point to Mitchell opening the season as a starter on the outside opposite Garrett Wilson.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Mitchell is entering his first full campaign with the Jets, having been acquired in the Sauce Gardner trade during the 2025 season. After playing sparingly during his first 25 NFL games (all with the Colts), the 2024 second-round pick handled a hefty 24.4% target share in eight games with New York last season. The usage led to two fantasy outings with 17-plus points, but he was otherwise a nonfactor (4.0 PPG). Efficiency remains an issue, as Mitchell's 44% catch rate ranks last, and his 6.0 yards per target is fourth worst among 77 receivers with 100-plus targets since he entered the league. The vertical threat will compete with rookie Omar Cooper Jr. for No. 2 duties opposite a now-healthy Garrett Wilson in the Jets' Geno Smith-led offense. Mitchell, 23, is not worth much more than late-round consideration.
