IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys are looking at life without weakside linebacker Justin Durant for the next three to four weeks because of a groin injury, a source said Wednesday.
Durant was injured in the second half of the Cowboys' Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. After the game, Durant said he would be fine. Dallas coaches credited him with 12 tackles, and NFL stats gave him eight.
Without Durant, the responsibility of middle linebacker Rolando McClain should increase. In passing situations against the 49ers, Durant moved to middle linebacker and McClain went off the field. After Durant's injury, McClain remained on the field.
McClain led the Cowboys with 12 tackles (though NFL stats gave him eight) and also had a quarterback pressure.
In addition, the Cowboys may move Bruce Carter to the weakside linebacker spot and use Kyle Wilber on the strong side.
Durant was the defensive signal-caller against San Francisco, but that job could fall to McClain, who joined the Cowboys in a trade from the Baltimore Ravens in July.
