Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana matches scheduled for this week, as well as Colombian domestic league games, have been postponed following a powerful earthquake that struck Colombia on Monday.
In a statement issued Monday, the División Mayor del Fútbol Colombiano (Dimayor) expressed its deep sorrow and solidarity with all Colombians affected by the strong tremor.
The magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit western Colombia, killing at least 111 people and damaging hundreds of buildings. President Abelardo de la Espriella has declared a national state of emergency.
Conmebol has postponed two Round of 16 matches: Tuesday's Copa Libertadores fixture between Deportes Tolima and Independiente del Valle, and Wednesday's Copa Sudamericana match between Independiente Santa Fe and River Plate. New dates for the games have not yet been announced.
In the domestic league, three remaining Matchday 4 fixtures and the entire Matchday 5 have also been pushed back due to the disaster.
"Our commitment is to Colombia and to everyone enduring these hard times. In circumstances like these, we understand that football must serve the country and stand with those who need it most," Dimayor stated.
"The 36 professional clubs comprising Dimayor will focus their efforts this week on relief and recovery for affected communities, offering their facilities and resources to support the nation throughout this emergency."
