SAN DIEGO -- Linebacker David Harris, one of the glue players on the New York Jets' defense, will have an MRI exam Monday morning to determine the extent of a shoulder injury he suffered in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 31-0 loss to the San Diego Chargers, a source said.
Jets coach Rex Ryan said he didn't have any information on Harris' injury, except to say it would be "a killer blow" to lose him for a significant period of time.
Harris was hurt while tackling Branden Oliver on a 5-yard run with 10:55 left in the game, and he didn't return to the game -- an ominous sign. Harris is an every-down player and typically doesn't miss more than a handful of plays throughout the course of a season. He's the defense's signal-caller on the field, so his loss would be huge.
He was replaced by Nick Bellore, who plays exclusively on special teams.
Cornerback Darrin Walls suffered a potentially serious knee injury. He, too, didn't return.
